Notice of Positive COVID-19 Tests - November 23, 2020

Smethport Area School District has been notified that an elementary student and a high school student have tested positive for COVID-19. These cases are not related. At this time, the situation does not require school to be closed.

Notice of Positive COVID-19 Tests - November 15, 2020

On November 15, 2020, the SASD received notification that a staff member at Smethport Schools has tested positive for COVID-19.

Smethport Area School District (SASD) has been notified that a staff member at the Seneca Highlands CTC has tested positive for COVID-19. Also, a student at Smethport Area High School has tested positive for COVID-19. The two cases are not related. SASD has initiated contact tracing actions with the Department of Health. The school or Department of Health will notify other staff and students if they are contact traced and must quarantine.

McKean County Strengthen Families Program

Please register for the Strengthen Families Program for ages ten through 14. It gives parents/caregivers a chance to connect with their youth. There will be a weekly free family meal, weekly prizes, weekly Sheetz card, and a chance to win a grand prize worth $250. View the McKean County Strengthen Families Program flyer to learn more.

Smethport Schools Announces Free Lunch Program

The Smethport Board of School Directors has extended the Seamless Summer Option program to June 30, 2021. This program provides free breakfast and lunch to all Smethport students. Please review the letter to families from our Food Services Director, Mrs. Zeigler for further information.

Health and Safety Plans Approved

On Tuesday, November 17, 2020, the Smethport Area Board of School Directors approved revisions to the health and safety plans and provided direction to continue operating school under Plan A. Smethport Schools will continue to be open for in-class instruction. You can view the health and safety plan, appendices for the plan, and the athletic health and safety plan in the following attachments. Please contact with questions, comments, or concerns regarding the plans. You can direct immediate questions on making adjustments to your educational choice to the high school (814) 887-5545 or elementary school (814) 887-5012.

Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program

The opportunity scholarship tax credit program is available to Smethport students for the 2020–2021 school year. Based on achievement results from the state testing programs, Smethport Jr./Sr. High School students qualify for a program to assist them in attending another participating public or non-public school in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
