Our District

Smethport Area School District holds the pulse of our community—our children. As educators, we are very aware of the trust placed in us to create an environment that promotes a desire to learn and succeed. From preschool to high school graduation, we are committed to “supporting the child and developing the student.”

A Vision for the Future

Smethport Area SD desires to inspire students to achieve academic excellence by providing high quality curriculum and learning programs.

Our Goals
We believe that, when given the appropriate tools, all children can learn. We commit to providing our community of learners with an environment of respect and support that:

  • Understands and meets the needs of all students
  • Supports personal independence
  • Remains relevant in our ever-changing culture by utilizing a strong technology base
  • Encourages students to strive for excellence
  • Supports the development of student career and college-readiness skills
  • Encourages students to set and achieve career goals

Opportunities for Learning

We proudly offer a challenging academic curriculum supplemented with a variety of extracurricular programs and services that enhance the student learning experience. Students have the opportunity to participate in activities such as athletics, fine arts (including art, band, music, and chorus), community service projects, classroom technology and STEM initiatives, and college readiness activities.

Preschool

We are pleased to offer children within our community a head start in preschool. We serve approximately 40 three- and four-year-old children in our preschool classes. Interested families can receive more information and register at our elementary office. Three-year-old children must have turned three before September 1 of the current school year to attend.

Becoming a Volunteer

Smethport ASD enjoys an active volunteer force and supportive community. No matter your situation—full-time employment, part-time employment, busy stay-at-home parent, or grandparent, we appreciate your support. To join our team and become an active volunteer at one of our schools, we ask that you complete a volunteer affidavit and submit clearances for criminal history and a child abuse background check. Please specify that you are applying to become a volunteer, and the district will gladly cover the costs of those clearances. To ensure the safety of our students, we must have all clearances on file prior to the start of any volunteering. Thank you for your cooperation.

Safe2Say Program

We are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive educational environment where all students can learn. We participate in the "Safe2Say Something" program. Please report unsafe or potentially harmful acts or threats to school personnel. You can also make reports anonymously by visiting the Safe2Say Submit an Anonymous Tip page. We encourage you to read our program letter, brochure, and presentation.
