Nurse’s Corner

Our nursing staff is committed to keeping the students in our schools healthy and providing parents with wellness tips they can implement at home.

Administration of Medication
Certain health problems require that students take medication during school hours. A signed consent form giving specific directions for use must accompany all medications. Both over-the-counter and prescription medication must be in its original, labeled container and kept in the health office at all times.

Medication will not be administered in school unless absolutely necessary. If, however, it does become necessary for your child to receive medication during school hours, the following procedures must be followed:

  • Medication must be brought to school by an adult in the pharmacy container labeled with the following information: name of child, name of physician, name of medication, and the correct dosage and time of administration.
  • The parent must provide a written physician’s order for the medication that states the child’s name, medication dosage, and time of administration.

The necessary forms for medication administration are available from the school nurse.

All students with severe allergies must complete and maintain an up-to-date emergency care plan. With parent permission, older students with severe allergies may carry and self-administer an inhaler or EpiPen that has proper labeling. Please check with the school office to obtain and sign a “Permission to Carry” form.

Immunization Information
State law requires students to complete all required immunizations before school starts. We will not allow students who cannot provide proof of required immunizations to attend school or ride the bus on the first day of classes. Please submit immunization updates to the school office. Should a continuing student need additional immunizations, we will notify parents by mail.
