Student Services
Our goal is to provide you with answers and resources to help make your experience at Smethport a positive one. If you ever have any questions about the services your child receives, please give us a call. We are always happy to help.
Student Assistance Program
SAP is a state-mandated program designed to help students overcome barriers to learning. At Smethport, a team of trained staff identifies and refers students for SAP services including outpatient counseling, school-based learning adaptations, and case management. All services are confidential.
Each year, SAP screens for health issues such as healthy BMI, hearing and visual acuity, scoliosis, motor skill development, and social/emotional skills. Data from each screening is included in the child’s health record and used to determine needed services.
If your child, or a student you know, is experiencing adverse circumstances that could affect their classroom experience, please let us know. You may request a service evaluation by contacting a member of our team or by completing this form online.
Homeless Education Assistance
Federal law ensures that migratory students and students experiencing homelessness can still access educational services regardless of their family’s inability to provide “proof of residency.” Smethport ASD is committed to providing all students with an education free of distractions and disruptions. When life events occur and normal patterns of living are compromised, we offer services and referrals for families experiencing both temporary and long-term homelessness.
Homeless children are those who lack “fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence” due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or frequent work-related moves. Children awaiting foster care placement; those living in cars, motels/hotels, trailer parks, or campgrounds; as well as those living in emergency or transitional shelters are considered homeless.
Additional information is available on the Pennsylvania Basic Education Circular regarding Homeless Students, and by accessing SASD Policy #251, Homeless Students.
Please contact SASD Homeless Liaison, Assistant Principal Mrs. Anna M. Stewart, at 814-887-5545 if you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness. We have dedicated resources to help.
