Smethport Elementary School

Smethport Area Elementary School serves the residents of McKean County, Pennsylvania, which includes Hamlin, Keating, Norwich, and Sergeant townships. Our highly qualified teachers and staff work closely with the surrounding rural community in order to nurture and educate students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Our motto is “Be safe, Be respectful, Be responsible, Be kind.”

Special Programs & Activities

To accomplish our mission of providing quality education that fosters career readiness, we offer enriching activities outside our classroom curriculum for children to grow their interests and skills.

Athletics
Our elementary athletics programs offer fifth- and sixth-grade students the opportunity to develop teamwork and muscle coordination through basketball.

Music
Our music program is designed to enhance our students’ educational journey. Music helps develop language and reasoning, memorization, coordination, and a sense of accomplishment.

STEM
We encourage every student to participate and engage in our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs that promote problem solving and growth mindsets.

Bullies2Buddies
The Bullies to Buddies program helps students learn how to respond to verbal taunting in a way that discourages future teasing.

YMCA After-School Program
Our YMCA After-School Program provides onsite childcare enrichment for preschool through sixth-grade students.

Sixth-Grade Camp
The outdoor educational camp for our sixth graders is a highlight of the year. Students learn about the great outdoors as well as gain leadership and social skills.

Preschool Program

We are pleased to offer the children of our community a head start in preschool. We follow the Smethport Elementary School calendar and serve approximately 40 three- and four-year-old children through our program. Interested families can sign up for more information (or register) at our elementary office.

Three-year-old children must have turned three before September 1 of the current school year to attend.
