Symptom Based Response & Return to School

Scenario Exclude from School Return to School After...
1. Single symptom not likely to spread aerosols (sore throat, stuffy nose, congestion) No Can remain in school. Monitor symptoms. If additional symptoms develop, move to Scenario 2 for return to school protocol.
2. Student or staff member has more than one symptom or one major symptom of illness such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of taste or smell, persistent cough. Yes With multiple symptoms, we strongly encourage testing for COVID-19. Return to school with one of the following:
    1. Fever-free for 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medication and completely symptom-free
    2. A doctor's note clearing return to school
    3. Proof of a negative COVID-19 test and fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications
    3. Student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 Yes - for at least five (5) days Student or staff is excluded from school/work for five (5) days (from test date if asymptomatic or date of onset of symptoms if symptomatic). Return to school/work after the initial 5-day exclusion if symptoms are resolving and no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. CDC recommends the wearing of a well-fitting mask for an additional five (5) days.
    4. Exposed (close contact) to a positive case of COVID-19 No Student or staff member remains at school unless symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, student or staff will be sent home and follow protocol for return to school under Scenario 2. Recommend wearing of a well-fitting facial covering for ten (10) days after close contact exposure.
