Children need healthy meals to learn. Smethport Area School District offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast costs $0.75; Elementary lunch costs $1.30 and High School lunch costs $1.40. Your children may qualify for free meals or reduced price meals. Reduced price is $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch.

Please take the time to click on this link for more information regarding free meals or reduced price meals.

Encourage your son/daughter to learn his/her student account number.

Smethport Area School District just made managing your child's school meal account easier with MealpayPlus. By using MealpayPlus you can make payments to your child's meal account online quickly and securely for a fee or just simply check your child's account balance for free. Effective August 1, 2009, the program fee associated with deposits made through MealpayPlus will be 4.75% of the total transaction. This change is due to steadily increasing credit card processing and development costs. Many other MealpayPlus services remain free, such as receiving low balance email reminders, checking purchase history, and viewing balances. Just click on MealpayPlus at quick links or click here. Please note that if you make a payment through MealpayPlus, it takes a couple of days to be credited into your child's account. The money may not be immediately availalbe.

Elementary Cafeteria News

Elementary students may substitute an individual salad, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a yogurt in place of the main entre. The rest of the regular lunch is then served with the substitute.

There are no Ala Carte items in the Elementary Cafeteria except milk; however, a student who purchases lunch may also buy extra menu items. Extra menu items are any single item on the menu or a second lunch. Students are charged for any extras that they choose and should have money in their lunch account to cover these. Students receiving free or reduced meals may also buy extras if there is money available in their account.

If a student forgets his/her home-packed lunch or money for lunch, he/she may charge a lunch. The Elementary Cafeteria allows charges up to $10.00. However, charges are discouraged and should be covered with an account deposit as soon as possible. Charges are handled as follows:

  • When the negative balance limit is reached, negative balance reminder slips will be given to the Elementary students to take home every couple of weeks. Once a charge balance reaches over the $10.00 limit, the student will receive a slip from their homeroom teacher that will allow them to get a white mike and cheese sandwich. These slips are to be given to the cafeteria server to receive their lunch.
  • If a parent does not wish their child to buy extras they may request this in writing to the Food Service Director, Toni Morris, who will then put a "block" on the account for extras. The cafeteria may deny the purchase of extras if there are insufficient funds left in the account to cover the extras.
  • Phone calls will NOT be made to parents. However, parents may call to check on an account balance at 887-5012 ext. 309 or through the MealpayPlus system online at MealpayPlus or by phone at 1-877-237-0946. Please note that if you make a payment through MealpayPlus, it takes a couple of days to be credited into your child's account. The money may not be immediately availalbe.

Students may bring lunches from home rather than eating a cafeteria-prepared lunch. It is assumed that such a lunch has the parent's approval. However, it is requested that no soda pop be brought to school to drink at lunch time. Also, students bringing candy, potato chips, corn chips, and so forth should only bring enough for themselves. Many parents do not want their child(ren) to eat such food at lunch time, so we request that students not share any item with their friends.

With the Point of Sale system, we encourage parents to send in lunch money for their child's account in advance. Charges are discouraged. The average daily, weekly, and monthly prices for breakfast and lunch are listed for your reference. Please also keep in mind that your deposit will need to cover any extra menu items that your child may purchase. You may deposit as much money as you would like into your child's account. Deposits to cover more than one week at a time are encouraged, but not mandatory. If possible, deposits should be made by check. If that is not possible, cash is also accepted. Checks can be mailed to the school payable to the Smethport Cafeteria Fund : attention Toni Morris, or sent to school with your child. You must fill out a School Lunch Deposit Slip with your child's account number, amount of the deposit, and the child's name, or have this information with the deposit. These deposits should be made before 10:00 a.m. A cafeteria employee will sign the School Lunch Deposit Slip when it is received and return a copy to your child as your receipt. If the student has a negative balance, any money brought to the cafeteria will be applied towards the negative balance.

The charge maximum of $10.00 will be permitted through the end of the year. However, all charges must be paid by the end of the school year. No Elementary student may participate in field trips at the end of the year unless their account it paid in full. Again, reminders will be sent home but phone calls to parents will NOT be made. Any money left in accounts at the end of the school year will be available to the student at the beginning of the next school year.

If you have any questions about your child's account, please feel free to contact Toni Morris at the Elementary Cafeteria at 887-5012 ext. 309.
