Transportation Changes:
ALL transportation changes must be in writing. We will not accept any transportation changes over the phone.
SASD Cafeteria News
The program fee associated with deposits made through MealpayPlus will be 4.75% of the total transaction. This change is due to steadily increasing credit card processing and development costs. Many other MealpayPlus services remain free, such as receiving low balance email reminders, checking purchase history, and viewing balances.
FREE AND REDUCED MEAL PROGRAM:
Free and reduced-price meal forms will be sent home during the first week of school. We will use the eligibility list from the end of last year until September 24th. The application for free and reduced-price lunches will also be used for the breakfast program. After September 24th, free and reduced-price status will be changed to full-pay status if an application has not been received. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible. Parents will be held responsible to pay any charges that have occurred after this date if they have not filled out the application on time. New students to the district, including Pre-K and Kindergarten students, will not be eligible until an application for the family is approved.
If you submit an application, you will receive a letter from the School District confirming whether the students on the application have been denied for free or reduced-price meals, approved for free meals, or approved for reduced-price meals. If you submit an application, and do not receive a letter from the School District within three business days, please contact Ms. Mary Jo Kreiner in the Superintendent’s Office at 887-5543.
The Child Nutrition Program is open to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or special needs. If you believe that you have been treated unfairly in receiving food services for any of the stated reasons, write immediately to the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. 20250.
Families are encouraged to apply for free or reduced-price meals. Information and applications are sent home at the beginning of each year regarding qualifications for free and reduced-price lunches. If your financial situation should change during the year, contact Ms. Mary Jo Kreiner in the Superintendent’s Office at 887-5543 for information. Families may apply for these programs at any time during the year. This information is held in strict confidence. Because all students have an account and go through the lunch line in the same way, others in line cannot tell when a student is receiving free or reduced meals.
Families that have children attending a public school district can apply for free or reduced price school meals through the National School Lunch Program online using the Internet! This can be done using COMPASS. COMPASS allows Pennsylvanian’s to apply for social service programs, such as Food Stamps (FS), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Energy Assistance, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), etc., online. Families can use COMPASS to apply for free or reduced price school meals only, or they can apply for other services at the same time (FS, TANF, etc.).
Since your child attends the Smethport Area School District, which is a public school district, you can apply for free or reduced price school meals online by going to the COMPASS website at www.compass.state.pa.us or you can continue to use the paper “Household Meal Benefit Application” if you prefer. If you apply for free or reduced price school meals through COMPASS, you do not need to submit a paper application.
